BOLIVAR, Mo. ā Ā鶹TVās theatre department will present the
regional premier of the musical āOvertureā at 7 p.m., March 5-7, with a matinee performance
at 2 p.m., March 8, in the Davis-Newport Theater on the Bolivar campus.
āOverture,ā winner of the New York Music Festivalās Best of Fest award and voted Kansas Cityās Best New Musical, is guaranteed to provide a night of entertainment, laughter and song. The story of āOvertureā is the story of the 1953-54 season of the Kansas City Philharmonic and its continued struggle to stay afloat.
As told through the character of Lily Brooks, āOvertureā follows her experiences selling tickets, meeting the maestro of the orchestra, Hans Schwieger, falling in love and dealing with loss. āOverture is filled with wonderful music, dancing and a beautiful love story.
āāOvertureā is set in the city I grew up in, in one of my favorite places to be,ā said Elizabeth Coulter, a sophomore theatre major at Ā鶹TV, who is serving as choreographer, as well as portraying Inda Mae Beasley. āI love the story. Itās all about music and what people find to be their inspiration.ā
General admission tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for children, $8 for alumni, senior citizens, Ā鶹TV students and students at other universities.
