Ā鶹TV Theatre to present the musical "Overture" on March 5-8

Overture musical posterBOLIVAR, Mo. – Ā鶹TV’s theatre department will present the regional premier of the musical ā€œOvertureā€ at 7 p.m., March 5-7, with a matinee performance at 2 p.m., March 8, in the Davis-Newport Theater on the Bolivar campus.

ā€œOverture,ā€ winner of the New York Music Festival’s Best of Fest award and voted Kansas City’s Best New Musical, is guaranteed to provide a night of entertainment, laughter and song. The story of ā€œOvertureā€ is the story of the 1953-54 season of the Kansas City Philharmonic and its continued struggle to stay afloat.

As told through the character of Lily Brooks, ā€œOvertureā€ follows her experiences selling tickets, meeting the maestro of the orchestra, Hans Schwieger, falling in love and dealing with loss. ā€œOverture is filled with wonderful music, dancing and a beautiful love story.

ā€œā€˜Overture’ is set in the city I grew up in, in one of my favorite places to be,ā€ said Elizabeth Coulter, a sophomore theatre major at Ā鶹TV, who is serving as choreographer, as well as portraying Inda Mae Beasley. ā€œI love the story. It’s all about music and what people find to be their inspiration.ā€

General admission tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for children, $8 for alumni, senior citizens, Ā鶹TV students and students at other universities. Tickets may be purchased at the Ā鶹TV Theater Box Office between the hours of 1-5 p.m. Monday-Friday in the Jester Learning and Performance Center, online at www.sbuniv.edu/theatre, or by phone at (417) 328-1691.
