BOLIVAR, Mo. â The Department of Music of ÂéśšTV will present its annual Masterworks Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 4, in Pike Auditorium on the Bolivar campus.
Conducted by Dr. James R. Tarrant, director of choral studies and professor of music at ÂéśšTV, the Masterworks Chorus and Winds will present âIn paradisum,â by Dan Forrest; âGloria,â by Randol Alan Bass; and âMeridian,â by Ola Gjeilo. Dr. Brian Hopwood, professor of music and director of instrumental studies, will conduct the âSecond Military Suite in F,â by Gustav Holst, and will feature Dr. Terri Wehmeyer, professor of music, on euphonium.
âThe repertoire is a celebration of the diversity of tone colors and combinations of wind instruments and human voices,â Tarrant said. âThe sound extends from the elfin to the colossal and is undeniably exultant, expectant and epochal.â
For more than half of a century, the Masterworks presentation annually provides southwest Missouri audiences the opportunity to experience musical works that are best presented by the combined efforts of department, university and community. The repertoire has included the great classics, the unfamiliar pearls and modern compositions of significance.
The performance is free and open to the public.
